There is a lot of misinformation out there about soy and soy products, so we have gathered some resources for you to check out. It’s good to be aware of what we are putting into our bodies.
If you are excluding soy from your diet because you are worried about the things you have heard, you may be missing out on some great benefits. You may also be a little misled by some tilted info.
As Dr. Michael Klaper cleverly states in the following video… “Don’t let science get in the way of a good fearful story.”
(This video is a fantastic source of info about soy!)
Let’s begin with the word that may come to your mind first after you hear the word soy…PHYTOESTROGENS
What are Phytoestrogens? Phytoestrogens or dietary estrogens are naturally occurring compounds found in plants. Many of these plants are already part of a person’s diet. Source: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/320630.php
Yes, you read that right! Phytoestrogens are found in many different foods. Check out this list…
Fruits: apples, carrots, pomegranates, strawberries, cranberries, grapes
Vegetables: yams, lentils, alfalfa sprouts, mung beans, sprouts
Soy and soy products: soybeans, edamame, tofu, tempeh, miso soup, miso paste
Herbs: red clover, licorice root, hops
Beverages and oils: coffee, bourbon, beer, red wine, olive oil, jasmine oil
Grains: oats, barley, wheat germ

“It is important to point out that phytoestrogens are not estrogen. In fact, there is a large body of scientific work which convincingly demonstrates that soy decreases-rather than increases—cancer risks and also lowers cancer recurrence rates.”

Like most things, it seems that not overdoing it – like drinking a gallon of Silk Soy Milk daily or eating a multitude of soy products on a daily basis – is a wise choice, a choice that will allow you to properly experience the benefits of soy.
If it’s GMO’s you are worried about, we get that! That’s why we use Lightlife products for our tempeh. https://www.nongmoproject.org/about/ (Lightlife is NON-GMO Project Verified.)
For our soybeans we use Cascadian Farms https://www.cascadianfarm.com (also NONGMO Project Verified).
We are often asked exactly what tempeh is. Tempeh is a soy and brown rice patty that we marinate. Many of our guests LOVE to add tempeh to their salads. It’s a yummy addition and adds a little more substance to a lighter meal. Some even add the tempeh bacon or the All Day Tempeh to sandwiches…just imagine our Grilled Cheese with tempeh bacon added. Sound mouth-watering? Exactly. If you have never tried tempeh, adding it to a salad or sandwich is a great way to try and see if it is something you like.
Our dishes that include soy are…
Asian Noodle Salad
Soba noodles, zoodles, cabbage, edamame, carrots, scallions, peanuts & sesame seeds tossed with sweet miso dressing
All Day Tempeh
Smoky & sweet tempeh with carrots, cucumber, lettuce, microgreens, house cashew parm & spicy aioli served on whole wheat bread
TLT
Marinated tempeh bacon with avocado, tomato, lettuce and mayo served on whole wheat toast
As always, feel free to ask any of the staff questions you may have. We love living a plant-based lifestyle and we have a good bit of experience in the variety of benefits it offers.
What we love most is seeing our guests not only enjoying the taste of the food we serve, but also feeling joy in knowing that they are doing something healthy for themselves.
